Kreutzjans leads Junior Amateur

Post staff report

Ross Kreutzjans shot an even-par 70 in the opening round of the Northern Kentucky Junior Amateur on Monday at Hickory Sticks Golf Course to take a three-stroke lead in the overall standings.

Kreutzjans, who won a Pepsi Junior Golf Tour in Lexington last month, competes in the 15-16 age group, but he shot a lower first-round score than any golfer in the boys' 17-18 age group.

The two players tied for second place in the overall standings going into today's final round are Kyle Jones and Brook Reeves.

Reeves leads the 17-18 age group by two strokes over Jim Warken.

The other boys' age-group leaders are Andrew Stephens (13-14), Alex Volpenhein (11-12) and Jeremy Martin (10-under).

The girls' age-group leaders are Meghan McGee (15-18) and Emily Culbertson (10-14).
