Fuldner leads the pack
First-round 69 is Day 1 top score

Eric Fuldner carded Monday's lowest score, a 2-under-par 69, during first-round action at the Northern Kentucky Junior Amateur at par-71 Hickory Sticks Golf Course.

Fuldner, a recent Campbell County High School graduate on his way to Cumberland College, leads Jordan Crone (72) and Michael Burgin (72) by three strokes in the boys' age 16-18 division, heading into today's closing round. Crone is from Dixie Heights. Burgan is from Grant County.

Jarrod Sharp, in fourth place in the boys' upper division with a score of 73, also is from Grant County.

Beechwood's Alex Carl, looking for her first tour win of the year, leads the girls' division after shooting 78 on Monday. Carl, whose best finish was second place in the second event at A.J. Jolly, leads second-place Emily Wolff (80) by two strokes.

Wolff, from Boone County and the girls' winner at A.J. Jolly, is one stroke ahead of third-place Ryanne Spears (81). Spears, from Scott, won the first girls' 7-Up tour event of the year at World of Sports.

The top four in the boys' 16-18 division all are looking for their first 7-up Tour win of 2005. This year's lone 16-18 division winner in the field, Matt Neal, who won the second event at A.J. Jolly, is tied for 18th with a score of 80.

Monday's first round cut the field of 148 in half. The 36-hole stroke-play tournament, the fourth event on the 7-Up Junior Tour this year, picks up again today with the final round at Hickory Sticks.

Sean O'Daniel leads the boys' 14-15 division with a 7-over 78, good for a one-stroke lead over John Carroll, who won the tour's second event in the 14-15 division at A.J. Jolly. O'Daniel was runner-up in the second event at A.J. Jolly.

Mickey Sutton leads the boys' 12-13 division with a 4-over 75, four strokes ahead of John Berberich and Phoenix Ramsey, who are tied for second with matching scores of 79. Ramsey was the 11-under champion at last year's Northern Kentucky Junior Amateur at A. J. Jolly.

Carter Hibbard's nine-hole score of 35 in the boys' 11-under division is two strokes better than second-place Blake Hamilton (37). Both 11-year-olds have a high finish of second place on the tour this year
